Brisbane house prices have risen at their fastest rate in 13 years as the city’s property market adjusts to the persistent Covid-19-induced demand. In 2021, the city saw a once-in-a-lifetime real estate boom, with about 400 suburbs joining the million-dollar club.
Following a year in which property values grew by 22.1 percent, Australia’s real estate industry is booming right now. While practically all properties in the country have seen their values rise, the blue-chip, top-end of the market has seen prices soar.
If you’re looking to buy, you’ll be glad to learn that Brisbane offers better value for money than Sydney and Melbourne. So, here are five houses that will blow your mind and change your perception of what a house may be.

Number 3
36 Needham Street, Fig Tree Pocket
SOLD: $7.5 million
Agents: Matt Lancashire and Christine Rudolph, Ray White New Farm
When Clive Palmer paid $7.5 million in January 2018, he got this mega-mansion trophy property for a steal. Since Linc Energy went into receivership in 2016 with debts of more than $300 million, the magnificent seven-bedroom, nine-bathroom waterfront house owned by struggling firm owner Peter Bond had been on the market.
In 2009, Mr Bond and his wife Louise paid $9.5 million for the home. They had it offered for sale for $11.9 million at one point, but there were no takers, so they took it off the market for a while. In August 2017, they put it up for auction, and despite significant bidding that reached $9.25 million, the couple directed their brokers to turn it in. Palmer had acquired it for $7.5 million by February, according to reports. Palmer had a busy year in real estate, as he bought some new seaside digs on the Gold Coast later that year, spending a cool $12 million on a Hedges Avenue home.
“Rivergum Retreat” sits proudly along a spectacular stretch of the Brisbane River, surrounded by historic established trees such as a 200-year-old Moreton Bay Fig, maintained gardens, and even a private developed rainforest, on 132m of direct water frontage. This valued parcel is a market gem, with every feature a smart buyer like Clive Palmer could want and every possibility a savvy investor could hope for. “Rivergum Retreat” is simply an unmatched proposition.
This spectacular home is ideally positioned on the banks of the gorgeous riverfront in Fig Tree Pocket, the city’s premier riverside acreage community. The impressive home boasts over 1,900 square meters of living area and is attractively situated on a 1.21-hectare plot with endless possibilities. The huge residence is lavishly furnished, with every conceivable luxury and attention. This features six large bedrooms, each with its own luxurious ensuite; living areas and entertainment rooms strewn about; and distinct wings that allow solitude and subtle separation. There’s even a private self-contained guest house, as one would expect from such a big estate.
Number 2
27 Sutherland Avenue, Ascot
SOLD for: $11 million
Agent: Coronis – Hamilton
In March of last year, the spectacular Hamptons-style trophy mansion held by Domino’s Pizza CEO Don Meij sold for a record $11 million in an off-market sale.
The mansion was purchased for $8.615 million in 2016 by the CEO of Australia’s largest pizza business from Maxine Horne and her Fone Zone co-founder and husband David McMahon, one of Australia’s richest female CEOs. Mr Meij had made a tidy $2.385 million profit in less than two years. The sumptuous property features six bedrooms, marble ensuite bathrooms, and a spectacular outdoor gathering space with resort-style gardens, an infinity-edge pool, a pool house with an outdoor kitchen, and large verandas, all set on a sprawling 2024 square meters of ground.
This stunning family home, reminiscent of a huge Hamptons estate, is an amazing standout in what is perhaps Brisbane’s most prominent tree-lined boulevard. The massive fade makes a spectacular entry on a sprawling 2024 sqm level block, while within there is a level of craftsmanship and beauty rarely seen.
The colossal proportions were created for large-scale partying. An infinity-edge pool, luxurious pool house, and broad northeast verandahs combine for breathtaking effect as a series of beautiful living areas flow smoothly from room to room and beyond to a resort-inspired garden paradise. Dark stained hardwood floors, lofty ceilings, white trimmed French doors, windows, and balustrades, four fireplaces, imported marble surfaces, and a neutral palette adaptable to any kind of décor are just some of the classic architectural aspects that ensure the home remains ageless.
